Hi Guys!
Ive been reading this forum for awhile now, but finally decided to register!
Sorry to bore you all with a question but here goes. . .
Im about to buy a Sonor Force 2005 kit, however im unsure what sizes would be the best to go for. Although my playing is at a fairly decent intermediate standard, ive not actually owned my own kit as of yet.
At the moment Im torn between the Stage 2 set up (22,10,12,16) or the Fusion (22,10,12,14). I understand that sonically, the fusion size probably sound good together, however i do like the low end of that 16 floor tom.
Since I dont really have the budget or space to get a 14 and 16, Id like to ask all your opinions on which set up would be most useful or beneficial?
Thanks Guys!
Neil

Welcome aboard!
I was just looking at the Sabian pub with all of the various cymbal setups for their artists. Included in the setup diagrams are the sizes for the snare and toms (bass drum wasn't included for some reason). Most drummers will use a 14" and/or 16" floor tom. Some will use an 18" a 13" or even a 12" "floor" tom. If you like the sound of a 16", then you should get it.
One important thing to consider is the depths of the toms. You may find it easier to position shallower toms over the kick than the deep power toms (depending on your seat height).
Good luck!

First of all the fusion kit comes with a 20" bass drum rather than a 22" and second, if you tune a 14" floor tom really low it sounds excellent - deep and punchy! Recently I've opted for my 14" floor rather than 16"... it's more focused sounding.

Thanks alot for the quick input guys, its very helpful.
Chris, I understand that usually 'fusion' sizes include a 20" bass, however this sonor kit seems to come with a 22", check for yourself.
Also guys, I notice that the 14 is a hangin tom where as the 16 has legs, any advantages or disadvantages to this? I heard someone say they had tuning problems with a hanging 14?
Thanks again, fellas!

I thought Tom Sizemore was pretty good in Saving Private Ryan.

As far as a hanging 14, it depends on the drum. Some will give you what you want and others just won't have the bottom end. I prefer the 14X14 on legs.
Also, Private Ryan was a great movie.
